Why Alodia Gosiengfiao Left the Esports Talent Agency She Co-Founded

Online gaming here in the Philippines has steadily been growing in the last few years. In fact, it is estimated that there are around 43 million gamers in the country. In addition, the projected growth rate between 2020 and 2023 is at 14.3%

One of the companies that has been at the forefront of the growth of esports and gaming in the country is Tier One Entertainment. Established in 2017, this esports company is home to the likes of Blacklist International and Team Payaman, which has seen a lot of success in its gaming career.

However, popular cosplayer and model Alodia Gosiengfiao—one of its co-founders—made the shocking announcement that she would be leaving the company.

Alodia Gosiengfiao Explains Her Departure

In a social media post, Gosiengfiao announced her departure from Tier One Entertainment because “it has become evident that our visions and values are not aligned.”

Gosiengfiao acknowledged in her post that building the company has been rewarding and challenging. She likewise expressed her gratitude “for the experiences, relationships, and accomplishments we’ve achieved together.”

As of writing, the post has amassed over 67,000 reactions, 1,700 comments, and 3,500 shares. It can be noted as well that Gosiengfiao did not mention any future plans following her departure.

The famed cosplayer co-founded Tier One Entertainment with Tryke Gutierrez and Brian Lim in 2017, where she spent more than six years as the company’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and was likewise a prominent face of the brand.

Tier One Entertainment Responds 

Following this news, Tier One Entertainment released its statement regarding its co-founder’s departure. 

“There is no reality where Tier One Entertainment would have reached the heights we have reached without you,” the company said in its statement. The statement also expressed Tier One’s gratitude towards Alodia, particularly the time and dedication she has given the company over the years. 

“It is essential for everyone to find a place where their values align and their vision can flourish,” said Tier One. “We wish you all the best in your next chapter and hope you find that place, both professionally and within your beautiful growing family.”

When and How to Walk Away

It is a fact of life that not all business relationships are not meant to work out. At times, this realization happens years into what has been a successful business venture. Thus, it is important then to know when is the right time to walk away, especially when values and visions no longer align. 

Alodia and Tier One Entertainment’s statements also show how dealing with the departure of a key figure in the company can be done gracefully. While there are a lot of speculations about how things went sour between both parties, neither chose to engage in very public mudslinging that can damage each other’s reputation.

This can serve as an example to other companies on how to deal with departures from the company, especially in a public setting.
