25.08.07 – WBO strawweight champion Ivan Calderon (29-0, 6 KOs) won a split decision tonight over WBO junior flyweight boxing champion Hugo Cazares (25-4-1, 19 KOs) at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Calderon, 32, fighting for the first time at junior flyweight, dominated the early going with his quickness and defensive skills.
Cazares, however, caught up to him in the 8th round and knocked him down. Calderon recovered well and held off Cazares for the rest of the bout. The final judges’ scores were 115-112, 115-112, 111-116, awarding Calderon with the decision.
