Ex-HP CEO Mark Hurd joins Oracle

Former HP chairman Mark Hurd has joined Oracle as a board member and president reporting to Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison.

The former HP chairman, CEO and president resigned on 7 August following the conclusion of a sexual harassment investigation which found Hurd in violation of HP's Standards of Business Conduct, but not its sexual harassment policy.

Ellison said there was "no executive in the IT world with more relevant experience than Mark".

"Mark did a brilliant job at HP and I expect he'll do even better at Oracle," Ellison said.

Hurd said Oracle's strategy of combining software with hardware "will enable Oracle to beat IBM in both enterprise servers and storage".

Oracle president Safra Catz said, "I look forward to working with him for years to come. As Oracle continues to grow we need people experienced in operating a $US100 billion business."
