The US Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating claims that ex Hewlett Packard (HP) chief executive Mark Hurd shared inside information with an ex contractor before it took over Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 2008, according to reports.

The Wall Street Journal, which cited anonymous sources, said that the government is looking into claims that Hurd had filed inaccurate expense reports and that he destroyed computer evidence that related to the claim.

The report quoted an HP spokesperson who said the company is "cooperating fully with the SEC on its investigation".

HP acquired EDS for US$13.9m.

Mark Hurd was forced to leave HP two years later after he faced allegations of sexual harassment (which were later cleared in court) and the inaccurate filing of expense reports.
He was hired in September this year by Oracle, and now sits as its President.
