Jimmy Neutron and his wacky friends in Retroville have been making us laugh for 15 years, first with the movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and later with the TV show The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. But Reddit user OrganicKermistry shared their theory about the Nickelodeon characters that has us questioning everything we thought we knew from our childhood.

According to the fan theory, Jimmy, Carl, Sheen, Cindy, and Libby are all genetically engineered children and given "a certain superpower and then implanted with a fake family to cultivate it." The rest of the town is "made up of government-employed actors," which would explain why people never really seem to bat an eye over a kid flying a homemade rocket to school.

If you're wondering why TF this would even happen, OrganicKermistry explains it's "because the city is a testing ground" for the United States government. All of Jimmy's insane inventions and gizmos are seen in one episode and then rarely (if ever) mentioned again — the self-folding pants, anyone? — because the government is stealing his creations to further develop and study. "Retroville and all the children's adventures are secretly staged development grounds for Jimmy's inventions," the Reddit user posited.

Remember when the gang traveled to Egypt during class and accidentally woke up a bunch of mummies? They only went to Egypt in the first place because their teacher showed them a movie on the subject. Dun dun DUN.

Plus, remember the secret military base, Area 86? OrganicKermistry claims its presence proves "the whole show is a documentation of Jimmy and his friends unknowingly testing gadgets and abilities that will be obtained and used by the United States government." Basically, EVERYTHING IS A LIE.

Tbh, this kind of makes sense. I always wondered why the townspeople never questioned the hijinks Jimmy and his pals got into on a daily basis. However, this theory has been debunked by the creator of the franchise himself: John A. Davis.

Seventeen.com reached out to John and shared the theory with him, asking for his thoughts. "Thanks for sharing the truth… er, I mean the amusing fictitious ARTICLE!" he told us via email. "Jimmy and the gang genetically engineered? Interesting theory…. You DO know the company that made Jimmy is called DNA Productions, right ; )"?

We see you, John.
