Former Philadelphia Phillies Manager Blasts Hall of Fame Voters

Larry Bowa thinks a former Philadelphia Phillies star belongs in the Hall of Fame.

If there's one thing that's known about the Baseball Hall of Fame voting results, it's guaranteed to make people angry.

Everyone has their own ideas of who belongs and who doesn't belong in Cooperstown, which leads to a lot of disagreements.

Well, it's safe to say that former Philadelphia Phillies manager Larry Bowa didn't agree with the latest round of voting.

The 2024 results were announced on Tuesday, and Jimmy Rollins' vote total was once again underwhelming.

Rollins received only 14.8% of the vote -- well short of the 75% required for induction. Bowa was quick to defend his former player on X (formerly Twitter).

Bowa managed Rollins with the Phillies from 2001-2004, before Rollins was even at his best.

J-Roll made two All-Star teams during that time, but didn't win his NL MVP award (2007) and World Series ring (2008) until later.

Still, Bowa feels strongly that Rollins belongs in Cooperstown. While he's clearly biased as Rollins' former manager, he's not necessarily wrong.

Not only did Bowa see Rollins play every day for four years, but he's also seen a ton of baseball in general. Bowa has spent more than half a century around the game and has seen a ton of great shortstops during that time, from Cal Ripken Jr. and Alex Rodriguez to Barry Larkin and Derek Jeter. Bowa has seen it all and knows what he's talking about.

He's right about Rollins' body of work.

An MVP award, a World Series ring, three All-Star selections and four Gold Gloves is an impressive resume, not to mention nearly 2,500 hits, more than 500 doubles and almost 500 stolen bases.

Rollins still has seven more shots on the writer's ballot, so perhaps voters will warm up to his case over the next few years.

If they don't, at least he'll always be in Bowa's Hall of Fame.
