BEARY THERE: Maxine Clark and Bob Fox were recently honored with the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award, which the late Jane Freund Harris bequeathed 12 years ago to be given to couples that work to enhance the region.
Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton held a luncheon at the school's Harbison House to recognize Clark, the founder of Build-a-Bear Workshop, and her husband, Fox, the founder of NewSpace Inc. and of Casa de Salud, a health and wellness center serving Hispanic immigrants.
Wrighton presented the couple with a Waterford clock and a cash award of $50,000 to be allocated to the charities of the winning couple's choice, according to an article in the Washington University newsletter. The money will go to Casa de Salud, College Bound St. Louis, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service, the Knowledge is Power Program and Teach for America.
