KINGWOOD — Goldie Maxine Clark, 91, of Kingwood, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at Windy Hill Village, Assisted Living Facility, in Kingwood, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Nov. 19, 1932, in Borgman, a daughter of the late Russell and Edith (Hill) Burke.
Her husband of 68 years, Miles Gene Clark, preceded her in death April 16, 2020.
Maxine graduated from Kingwood High School in 1950. She worked at the C&P telephone office in Kingwood for a year, and then for the Preston County Board of Education as a classroom aide for several years.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and especially quilting. She was also a 4-H leader of the Manown group for 10 years.
Maxine and her husband traveled in all 50 states, as well as three cruises, several countries in Europe, and a special trip in 2018 to the Holy Land which they enjoyed very much. They loved square dancing and attended several conventions and saw a lot of beautiful country.
She attended St. Sebastian Catholic Church. As a member, she served as an usher and a minister of Eucharist of the church. She was also a member of the Altar Society and St. Vincent de Paul.
She is survived by a son, Terry and wife Kimberley of Fayetteville, Ga.; two daughters, Brenda Armstead, of Florida and Melinda Black of Pottstown, Pa.; son-in-law, Fred Conley of Kingwood; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Robert D. Burke and wife Alda “Cookie” of Reedsville and Charles S. Burke of Reedsville; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Clark and Sue Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Conley; granddaughter, April Dawn Clark; and brother, Clarence Burke.
Family and friends will be received at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Friday, Feb. 2, from 4-7 p.m. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 322 E. Main Street, Kingwood, with Father Dominic Athishu as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Howesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 322 E. Main Street, Kingwood, WV 26537 or St. Sebastian Altar Society, 322 E. Main Street, Kingwood, WV 26537.
