RM2H5WR1W–Chinese chair carpet. Felt cloth with silk embroidery for a sedan chair. The embroidery consists of representations alternating between cranes and bats around the simplified Chinese character ('su', long life). Around these representations a rectangular strip with meander patterns in various colours has been applied. Around the circle symbolising a Chinese character in the middle, two four cranes and four bats were embroidered symmetrically. These circling and flying motifs were balanced with the square pattern of the repetition of a single motif. Chinese textile.
